Results awaited from autopsy on body of six-year-old who died in her sleep

An autopsy is set to be performed on Monday on the body of a six-year-old girl, who died in her sleep in Paphos.

The autopsy had been scheduled for 11.30am at the Nicosia General Hospital where medical reports pertaining to the case would be secured to assist the medical examiners in their work, Paphos assistant police chief Michalis Nikolaou said.

He added that the autopsy will be performed by medical examiners Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou.

Police had undertaken an investigation into the case following the child’s sudden death.

The little girl, who lived Paphos with her parents, had had suffered various health problems since birth, Nikolaou said.

On July 17, she underwent a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy at Paphos general hospital from where she was discharged at noon the following day.

At some point she lay down in her house and fell asleep, without ever waking up again. The child was transferred on Thursday evening to the hospital’s A&E department where the doctors on duty established her death.

From initial police assessment there is no suspicion of criminal activity, Nikolaou said.
