Mai Zimmy, a savvy mum and cleaning fan from the US revealed that she swears by her simple trick, that will instantly empty your junk drawer.
Don’t worry, we’ve all got one – that one drawer that we just shove everything into.
Whether it’s loose change, hair bands, receipts, or chargers and leads that you don’t even know what they’re for, the ‘junk drawer’ is something that many households in the UK have.
But with the summer holidays finally here, if you’ve got some spare time to kill and fancy giving your home a tidy up, then this hack is the perfect place to start.
The content creator took to social media to share her simple trick, as she said: “Have you heard of the 20/20 rule when it comes to decluttering?
“Consider using it on an area like your junk drawer that is really mostly just c**p.”
Mai then showed off her junk drawer, full of all things from money, kitchen gadget instruction manuals, pens, nail varnish and more.
The influencer continued: “If you’re struggling with decluttering decisions, the 20/20 rule says you should consider letting go of an item if you can replace it for less than $20 [£15] and you can replace it in less than 20 minutes.
“Overall, the 20/20 rule seems to work great for this space.
“What do you think of this rule? Wise is or wasteful?”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @maizimmy, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 317,800 views.
But social media users were left divided at Mai’s decluttering hack – whilst some thought it was great and were eager to give it a try, others weren’t so keen.
