Disused beachfront UK waterpark finally reopens this week – with cocktail bar and sea view infinity pool

A CLOSED down waterpark in the UK is finally set to reopen this week, after it shut its doors in 2023.

The attraction is home to four slides, an outdoor infinity pool and a cocktail bar, among other features.

Alpamare waterpark in Scarborough cost £14million to open back in 2016, when it was launched as an alpine-themed water attraction.

However, its owners went into administration last autumn and it has since had to be transferred into new ownership.

Local authorities assumed responsibility for the park before it was taken over by Flamingo Land earlier this year, a theme park about 30 miles away from Alpamare.

Flamingo Land’s owner Gordon Gibb has previously described Alpamare as “an exciting new venture” and said that its reopening will provide a “huge boost” for Scarborough this summer.

After completing the takeover, a specific date for reopening wasn’t initially announced, however it has since been confirmed that the waterpark will be welcoming guests once again from 10am this Wednesday (July 24).

Gordon Gibb said: “This opening would not have been possible without a super-human effort from our team and fantastic support from North Yorkshire Council.

“We are now looking forward to welcoming visitors to this amazing attraction for Scarborough, which will be a huge boost for the resort’s summer season.”

Guests will be looking forward to getting back to the park after almost a year of it being closed.

There they can make the most of its two heated outdoor pools, one of which is a 35C infinity pool that looks out over the beach, as well as four slides and wave machine.

The original alpine theme still shows throughout, with its slides designed around downhill winter sports.

They include the Olympic Run, the Cresta Run, the Black Run and the Snow Storm, each offering different excitement levels for thrill-seekers.

Meanwhile people looking for relaxation will find it in the alpine-themed spa.

The park has applied for its alcohol licence, which it needs for its cocktail bar, while food and drinks can also be found in its cafe and restaurant.

Other features at the park include scenic gardens, a sunbathing terrace next to the infinity pool and a “splash and play” area for younger kids.

Five new water attractions opening in the UK next year

  1. Therme Manchester will have 25 swimming pools, 25 water slides and an indoor beach.
  2. Modern Surf Manchester will be a surfing lagoon offering lessons to both beginners and experts.
  3. Chessington World of Adventures waterpark is set to have wave, infinity and spa pools as well as waterslides and cabanas.
  4. The Cove Resort, Southport is likely to have a water lagoon and a thermal spa with steam rooms and saunas.
  5. The Seahive, Deal plans to be the “surfing wellness resort” in the UK.

Its website promises guests the “biggest, fastest and wettest” waterpark they have ever visited.

It reads: “All the way from the Alps, Alpamare Scarborough is a waterpark like no other.

“If you love adventure, it’s time to experience the biggest, the fastest, the wettest, the warmest, the cleanest, the waviest, the newest, the funnest, the most unlike-any-waterpark-you’ve-seen before waterpark.”

The park is clearly much-loved by members of the public, with an overall score of 4.3/5 on Google from thousands of reviews.

One reviewer said: “Great afternoon out! Pool with waves fun for kids, as is the kids water play area.

“Outdoor spa pools really warm and a nice contrast to the outside temperature but the water slides are the star of the show.”

Another added: “Love it. The slides are fast, the staff are great, the food and drink are not too expensive. And the warm pools are heaven.”

Meanwhile, this 100-acre waterpark is also set to open with its own campsite.

And this English beach has plans to open its own brand new water attraction.
