Shoppers shared the deal on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group on Sunday.

A customer published a photo of her garden, decorated with plenty of colourful flowers and plants, with the caption: “B&Q have 50% off loads of outdoor summer plants today.”

She said she found the deal at her local store in Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh.

A person commented: “I picked some up today too.

“The St Helens store had a lot, and surprisingly were not all half dead.”

Another customer shared an image of her shopping trolley with many different plants in it.

She wrote: “B&Q half price sale! All this for £45 was a bargain to say the least.”

The B&Q customer also revealed a little-known trick to get an extra discount on your shopping, adding: “I went with my Nan who gets a further 10% off gardening on a Wednesday.”

The extra discount on Wednesdays applies to customers aged 60 or above who have B&Q’s “Diamond” loyalty card.

Those eligible can get a 10% discount on gardening products at B&Q stores every Wednesday.

The Diamond discount is no longer available for new customers signing up, but only for those who already have their card.

Hundreds of Facebook users liked and commented on the post on the group, with one tagging a friend and asking: “Need more plants?”

One more wrote: “I was hoping to go to B&Q last Sunday afternoon.

“Fingers crossed to this Sunday.”

We’ve checked B&Q’s website and found plants starting from £2.50 thanks to the offer.

The price applies to several plants – including the Hyacinthus and the Muscari Siberian Tiger – which are discounted from their original price of £5.

You can also buy a Narcissus Bridal Crown Yellow Flower for £3.50, down from £7.

If you’re keen to get one of these discounted plants, it could be worth calling your local branch to see if they have the one you like in stock.

You can find your nearest B&Q branch by using the retailer’s store locator on its website – and if you buy online, keep in mind you might need to pay extra for delivery.

But you should always remember to shop around before buying anything like this as you might find the item cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Price Spy let you compare prices on thousands of products to find out where it will cost you the least.

You can also have a quick scan on the Google Shopping/Product tab to see how much retailers are selling a particular item for.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

Just weeks ago, shoppers were running to B&Q to snap up a 75p bargain buy to spruce up their garden.

A customer took to Extreme Couponing and Bargains group to help others get their garden looking great this summer

He wrote: “So for anyone looking for plants, herbs or veg for the garden.

“B&Q in Chelmsford had loads of plants reduced 75 per cent of their full price.”

He discovered a good amount of outdoor flowers and plants discounted for a fraction of the price.

Adian wrote: “So nine small plants £3 down to 75p.

“My fiancée also got some free begonias that the guy was chucking out.

“Most looked good just need to be left to soak in some water and those dropping will be right as rain.”
