BBC Breakfast in yet another host shake-up as fan-favourite goes missing while one star returns

BBC Breakfast underwent a surprising shakeup today with a notable absence and a welcome return on the iconic red sofa.

Usually the dynamic duo of Jon Kay and Sally Nugent greet viewers for the first three days of the week.

However this week BBC bosses threw a curveball, creating a stir among the audience.

Sally Nugent made her much-anticipated return to the Salford-based programme after her time away covering the Euros.

She went missing from the studio last week, making an appearance live from Berlin following England’s losing match against Spain on Sunday.

Nina Warhurst took her place on the red sofa while she was on the ground in Germany.

Now Sally is back in Manchester, but viewers were left puzzled as Jon Kay, 54, was conspicuously missing from his regular spot.

Jon, known for his significant role in the marathon General Election coverage, was expected to continue his duties on BBC Breakfast.

Instead, Sally, 52, took to the sofa alongside Ben Thompson – addressing viewers with her usual warmth and professionalism.

Viewers tuning in today took to social media to express their surprise about the unexpected change.

Many fans expressed their delight at seeing Sally back, while others speculated about Jon’s mysterious absence.

One person sadly wrote: “No dad joke Jon this morning.”

Another chimed in: “Sally looks lovely though.”

Meanwhile, The Sun recently revealed how Charlie Stayt and his wife narrowly avoided a huge tax bill.

The 62-year-old and his wife Anne, 58, a fellow broadcaster, owed £191,000 and had been served a bankruptcy petition last month.

But the High Court at London’s Rolls Building heard they had paid back £159,000 and a deal was made today for them to pay off the remaining £32,000.

Neither of them appeared at the two-minute hearing, where Judge Sebastian Prentis granted permission for the petition to be removed.
