Carlos Mendoza said he isn’t concerned with Kodai Senga‘s struggles in his latest rehab start and still expects the 31-year-old to make his season debut on Friday if he feels well. Senga got tagged for five runs and eight hits in three-plus innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. He threw 79 pitches and said he felt fine, chalking up his struggles to his forkball being ineffective.

Christian Scott was hurt by the long ball again on Sunday, surrendering a three-run homer to Jazz Chisholm Jr., and the Mets’ offense left nine men on base as they dropped the third game of their series in Miami, 4-2. Scott has now allowed eight homers in 47 1/3 innings, with six of the eight homers coming with men on base. The Mets are tied with the Diamondbacks and Padres for the third Wild Card spot.

The Mets will look to earn a series split tonight, sending David Peterson (4-0, 3.09 ERA) to the mound against veteran righty Yonny Chirinos. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

The Mets have traded lefty Tyler Jay to the Brewers in exchange for minor league righty TJ Shook. Jay had recently been designated for assignment. Shook has a 4.90 ERA with 77 strikeouts against 25 walks in 64 1/3 innings in Double-A this season.

The Mets signed third-round pick Nate Dohm for $797,500, which is below the slot value of $934,800. Dohm dealt with a forearm issue in 2024 but turned in a 1.23 ERA with 37 strikeouts without allowing a homer in 29 1/3 innings for Mississippi State.

The Mets also inked seventh-round pick Will Watson for full slot value. Watson turned in a 3.93 ERA with 46 strikeouts and only allowed three homers in 50 1/3 innings for USC in 2024.

Rachel Minaya, the wife of former Mets general manager Omar Minaya, was found dead in their New Jersey home on Sunday. Omar Minaya was not home at the time of his wife’s death.

The Braves were dealt a couple of blows on Sunday, placing Max Fried on the injured list with forearm neuritis, and losing Ozzie Albies for eight weeks after he suffered a fractured wrist during the team’s game against the Cardinals. Left-hander Dylan Dodd has been recalled to take Fried’s place, and Nacho Alvarez Jr. will assume Albies’ spot. Alvarez is the team’s top-ranked position-player prospect and is hitting a scalding .336/.432/.575 with seven homers in 28 games for Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Mariners have placed former All-Star Ty France on irrevocable outright waivers. If he goes unclaimed, France can refuse an assignment to the minor leagues. Once a key part of Seattle’s lineup, France is hitting just .224/.313/.351 with eight homers and negative-0.1 rWAR in 339 plate appearances this season.

Knight, Davis, Mario Soto, and Kevin Mitchell are all ejected for the fracas. Once the dust settles, Gary Carter moves to third base, Roger McDowell enters to pitch, and Jesse Orosco moves to left field. McDowell and Orosco alternate between pitching and playing the outfield for the rest of the game. Howard Johnson smacks a three-run homer in the 14th inning to give the Mets a 6-3 win.

2004: David Wright collects his first major league hit, a double off Montreal’s Zach Day. Unfortunately, the Mets fall to the Expos, 4-1.
