What Trevor Story Expects Red Sox To Do At MLB Trade Deadline
When the Red Sox racked up a rash of injuries early in the season, few expected Boston to be in a position to buy ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
Few outside of the Red Sox clubhouse, that is.
Alex Cora’s players haven’t lost their confidence all season, and it’s manifested in their play. Even after being swept by the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Boston only sat one game back of the final American League wild-card spot as of Monday morning. This team is worth investing in, and one of the players who’s been forced to watch from afar believes Craig Breslow and company will do just that.
“Obviously, they’ve exceeded a lot of expectations from people outside the room,” Trevor Story told reporters, per MassLive. “I think we expected ourselves to be in this situation. I think we will (add). The Red Sox organization has never not gone for it while holding a position like this. I feel good about that.”
A winless trip to Chavez Ravine obviously didn’t help the cause, but Boston can strengthen its case for buying this week. The Red Sox will finish their West Coast road trip with three games against the lowly Colorado Rockies before returning home to face the rival New York Yankees for a weekend set.
So, by the start of next week, Boston very well could have a playoff spot and a new player or two in the clubhouse.
