UoL unveils new Psychology Department
University of Limassol (UoL) is delighted to announce the establishment of its new Department of Psychology under the Social Sciences and Humanities School. This exciting development marks a significant expansion of UoL academic offerings, providing students with an array of programmes designed to foster a deep understanding of human behaviour and mental processes.
The establishment of the new Department of Psychology comes just one year after the University’s opening, demonstrating the rapid growth and commitment to expanding its academic horizons. In only a short period of time, UoL has evolved into a hub of educational excellence and innovation, attracting a diverse body of students and faculty, committed to academic and research excellence. This evolution embodies its motto, “Ever Evolving”, reflecting its dedication to continuous growth and transformation.
The Department of Psychology offers the following programmes:
Bachelor of Science in Psychology: This programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted discipline of Psychology. Offering a balanced blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, the programme ensures students receive a well-rounded education.
Central to the programme’s mission is the cultivation of ethical awareness and responsible conduct among students. Whether engaged in psychological research or professional practice, students are guided towards ethical behaviour, fostering integrity and respect in all interactions with individuals and groups.
Students have the option to select one of the below tracks:
- General Psychology
- Clinical and Counselling Psychology
- Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience
Master of Science in Educational Psychology: This graduate programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the field, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Adapted to meet evolving needs, the programme incorporates the latest advancements and emphasises inclusion and diversity.
Designed for individuals from diverse backgrounds, the programme includes real-world case studies, interactive learning, and hands-on experiences to prepare students for professional challenges. Additionally, mentorship opportunities and research development support are available to enhance professional growth. The programme is delivered via distance-learning, providing flexibility and accessibility without compromising on quality.
Both programmes are nationally accredited by CYQAA and recognised by KYSATS.
Psychology Department Acting Head Dr Kyriaki Mikellidou sounded her keen anticipation over the new department’s undertakings. “We are excited to launch these programmes and contribute to the development of future psychologists and researchers,” she said. “Our department is committed to providing high-quality education, fostering innovative research, and making a positive impact on society.”
