State Democratic Party chairs endorse Harris

The majority of state Democratic Party chairs voted Sunday to endorse Vice President Harris's presidential run, hours after President Biden announced he dropped his reelection bid.

The Executive Committee of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC), which represents 57 state Democratic parties across the nation, said its members quickly assembled on Sunday to "unite" behind Harris, whom Biden endorsed shortly after withdrawing from the race.

"These state party leaders are on the front lines of winning elections at every level and know that the stakes of this election could not be higher," ASDC President Ken Martin wrote in a statement. "With our democracy on the ballot, there is no one more qualified than Vice President Harris to prosecute the case against Donald Trump."

Martin applauded Harris's record as vice president, calling her a "cornerstone of this administration's extraordinary success."

"As a Black woman and a South Asian American, Kamala Harris
reflects the rich diversity of our Democratic coalition and our country. Having served alongside President Biden, she is ready on day one as a candidate and as our next President," Martin added.

No member voted in opposition, though a handful of members abstained for in-state procedural reasons, the ASDC noted.

Harris received an onslaught of support from multiple Democratic leaders on Sunday shortly after Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed her candidacy.

Biden's decision not to seek reelection came after a dramatic month in Washington following a disastrous debate performance that sent shockwaves through the party.

An increasing number of Democratic lawmakers called on the president to step aside from the 2024 race over concerns he would not be able to defeat former President Trump or carry out another four-year term.

Harris said on Sunday she  intends to earn and win the Democratic presidential nomination.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win,” Harris said in a statement.
