The family were travelling in a Ford Focus along the A61 when they collided with a motorcycle being ridden by a man and woman at around 3.54pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but they were pronounced dead a short time later.

The man and woman on the motorcycle – the rider and pillion passenger – were also killed.

In an update today, Superintendent Alan Travis, of Wakefield District Police, said: “At around On Sunday July 21 at 3.54pm, emergency services received a call reporting a collision on the A61 near to Staincross, between Wakefield and Barnsley.

“Emergency services attended and established there had been a collision between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle.

“The car involved was a Ford Focus and contained four people – a man, a woman and two girls.

“The motorcycle was being driven by a man and a woman. Very sadly, all six people died at the scene.

“This is obviously a tragic incident with a devastating loss of life. Specialist police officers are supporting the family of the deceased and I would ask that there privacy be respected at this time.

“My heart goes out to the family and loved ones who have lost people in this incident.

“This is a truly horrendous collision, which we are in the early stages of investigating.”

The update comes as family and friends have been paying tribute to the family.

Mr Roller’s brother Callum wrote on Facebook on Sunday: “I’m absolutely heartbroken I’m gonna miss all of you!

“It’s absolutely broken my heart and it’s absolutely broke both side of families!

“You all had a heart of gold and gonna miss you all like crazy!

“My heart goes out to shannens side of family and mine! We are all in absolute shock.”
