East Topeka occupied house fire causes $25,000 in damage

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka firefighters doused a house fire in east Topeka Sunday morning which caused thousands of dollars in damage.

City of Topeka spokeswoman Rosie Nichols said in a press release the Topeka Fire Department was called around 5 a.m. on July 21 to a residence in the 320 block of SE Lake Street. Firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke and flames coming from a single-story home.

Firefighters found one resident who was able to leave the home without injury. The fire was contained to the single-story home and put out.

Nichols said an investigation into the fire found it caused about $25,000 of damage. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
