Watervliet appoints new city court judge

Watervliet appointed Jasmine Norman as the next city court judge.

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Watervliet appointed Jasmine Norman as the next city court judge. Norman will begin her six-year term in August.

Norman is a Watervliet resident and will replace city judge Peter Torncello, who will retire in late August. After Norman was admitted to the New York State Bar Association, she worked for the New York State Department of State Office of General Council and the Schenectady County's Office of the Conflict Defender.

Torncello said being a city court judge has been the highlight of his career, and he is confident that Watervliet City Court is in great hands. Watervliet Mayor Charles Patricelli said he first met Norman when she volunteered to be a member of the Police Review Board.

"I found Jasmine to be quite interesting, well-spoken and caring. I was impressed with her work on the Police Review Board, so I appointed her to the Watervliet Board of Ethics, where she is currently serving. The City of Watervliet is fortunate to have had two great attorneys living in the city to fill this position."
