Lafayette law firm to give away hundreds of free backpacks

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A local law firm will be giving away hundreds of backpacks this weekend in an effort to create a brighter future to Louisiana children.

Laborde Earles, a law firm with offices in Lafayette and New Iberia, announced that it is hosting its third annual Project Backpack event. Each pack will be stuffed with school supplies to help prepare students in grades pre-K through eight for the upcoming school year.

The event will be held Saturday at the Laborde Earles office in Lafayette, 1901 Kaliste Saloom Road, from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Backpacks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must be present to receive a backpack.

“There are many families in our community that find the back-to-school season financially challenging,” partner Digger Earles said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to help ease some of those burdens by providing backpacks and supplies.”

David Laborde, a partner at the firm, said the giveaway is an opportunity for the law firm to "give back and show our appreciation for the trust and support we receive from local families."
