Scotland pace bowler Charlie Cassell broke South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada’s 9-year-old record for the best bowling figures in Men’s ODIs, as he bagged 7 for 21 in 5.4 overs against Oman in the IC Men’s cricket World Cup League 2 match here on Monday. Since pacer Chris Sole was not available because of some personal reasons, Cassell was added to the Scotland squad for match against Oman. Cassell made an instant impact with point-to-point accuracy, as he trapped Oman captaim Zeeshan Maqsood with an lbw on his very first ball in international cricket.

The second delivery broke the defence of Ayaan Khan, making it the first time in history where a bowler took two wickets off his first ever two balls in ODI cricket. After teo more balls, Cassell dismissed Khalid Kail as well.

Cassell’s splendid debut continued taking wickets and he had a 5-wicket haul as he further dismissed Mehran Khan in 18th over. This took him to the exclusive list of 15 players who have picked 5-wickets in Men’s ODI debut.

This does not finish just there, it got better as Cassell completely destroyed Oman tail and finished with 7 for 21. This is by far the best bowling figure ever made by any ODI bowler on their international debut. Before this, the figure of 6-16 figure of Rabada was the best, which he made in July 2015.

Cassell now has the 7th best bowling figure by a player in ODIs, as after being asked to bat first, Oman were bowled out for 91 in 21.4. Pratik Thavale made the top score of 34, along with two other batters who only managed to reach double digits, rest all could not even reach double digits in score.
