Brendan Fraser to play Dwight Eisenhower in D-Day movie ‘Pressure’

The Brenaissance continues.

Brendan Fraser, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s 2022 film “The Whale,” has landed his next hefty role. Deadline reports that Fraser has been cast to play Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in director Anthony Maras’ upcoming D-Day film “Pressure.”

“Pressure” is a tense historical drama that tells the story of meteorologist James Stagg, played by “Ripley” star Andrew Scott, who is tasked with monitoring weather conditions ahead of the Normandy landing. The decision that Eisenhower makes based on the information Stagg gives him could be the difference between life and death for an unimaginable number of people. So the title has a double meaning.

Here’s the official synopsis from studios Working Title and Studiocanal: “In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

Maras (“Hotel Mumbai”) and Olivier Award-winner David Haig wrote the screenplay, which is based on Haig’s 2014 play of the same name.

After World War II, Eisenhower went on to become the 34th President of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961.

Fraser was most recently seen in a supporting role in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” His other upcoming projects include Max Barbakow’s comedy “Brothers,” Hikari’s drama “Rental Family” (which will be his first lead role since “The Whale”), and Romain Gavras’ satirical thriller “Sacrifice.”
