Katy Perry Showed There’s Two People Helping Her Be 'Unbothered' With Her New Album Backlash

Katy Perry‘s new album, 143, hasn’t been released without a glitch. In fact, the internet is still up in arms about her latest song, “A Woman’s World,” and her working with disgraced music producer Dr. Luke. But, as she continues to release and promote her new project, Perry’s showing she’s paying no mind to the haters.

In a new Instagram post, Perry posted a carousel of images and videos from a recent beach vacation. In the first pic, for example, the “Teenage Dream” singer is rocking a printed orange and white one-piece and a matching bucket hat while holding up colorful floaties all set to her new song.

In the next, Perry’s fiancé Orlando Bloom is seen cuddling up to the former American Idol judge as they overlook the sunset. In another slide, Bloom can be seen helping out Perry as she signs copies of her new vinyl record.

In another adorable photo, Perry shows her 3-year-old daughter Daisy and her tiny, precious hand, holding up – you guessed it – a daisy.

In the caption, Perry defined herself with some of the lyrics from her new single. “WOMAN’S WORLD: sister/mother/partner/funtie/k—/almost 40 and FABULOUS edition ????,” Perry wrote. In the location for the post, she wrote “Planet Unbothered.”

In the comments, while some are praising Perry for focusing on her family, and looking amazing while doing it, some feel that her post is a tad tone-deaf given all the backlash. “Planet Unbothered, where hypocrisy reigns,” wrote one commenter.

As a reminder, Perry faced her fair share of criticism when “A Woman’s World” was seen as a faux-feminist anthem that seemed to stereotype and objectify women more than empower them. In the lyrics, Perry (who’s wearing a skimpy, skin-baring outfit) describes women with several platitudes, including a list of adjectives that can only be described as how the male gaze would describe the perfect woman. “Sexy, confident / So intelligent / She is heaven-sent / So soft, so strong,” she sings.

Following the backlash, Perry initially responded to the concerns with somewhat of an explanation. “Girlboss s–!” Perry said in the video on Instagram. “You can do it! You go girl, you were born to shine.”

“We’re kind of just having fun, being a bit sarcastic with it,” she explained. “It’s very slapstick and very on-the-nose and with this set, it’s like ‘Oh, we’re not about the male gaze but we really are about the male gaze.’ And we’re really overplaying it and on the nose because we’re about to get smashed which is like a reset for my idea of the feminine divine. It’s a whole new world we go to after this.”

So while her explanation somewhat explained her inspiration, it’s safe to say her excuse is falling flat with fans. Regardless, it seems Perry’s not too bothered about it.
