Watch: Rep. Crockett fact-checks GOP lawmaker who calls Trump shooting 'DEI horror story'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) pushed back after Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) called the shooting of former President Donald Trump a "DEI horror story."

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Burchett blamed the assassination attempt on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

"I don't think you should resign, I think you should have been fired, ma'am," Burchett told Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheadle. "You are a DEI horror story."

"You've let the American public down. If it's up to me, you'd be gone," he added.

Crockett quickly gave Cheatle a chance to dispute Burchett's accusation.

"Mr. Chair, and let me just pick up where my colleague from Tennessee left off, Director Cheadle. Was the incident on July 13th due to DEI or rather systemic failures in communication and potentially safety protocols?" Crockett asked.

"The incident on the 13th has nothing to do with DEI. The incident on the 13th has to do with a failure or a gap either in planning or communication," Cheadle confirmed.

Crockett said she would enter articles into the record "that actually acknowledge a number of women specifically for their valor in their service, whether it's been in various levels of law enforcement."
