Topeka man dies after crashing into a tree in Shawnee County

SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) - Sheriff's deputies say they found the body of a 28-year-old Topeka man Sunday following a crash in Shawnee County.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office posted to social media Monday, July 22 of a crash that occurred around 3:15 a.m. on July 21 in the 3200 block of Southwest Auburn Road. Deputies responding to the crash site found a 2019 Nissan Altima was traveling westbound on Southwest 33rd Street when it drove through a stop sign at Southwest Auburn Road and hit a tree on the west side of the road.

The driver and only occupant was declared dead at the scene. The sheriff's office identified the driver as Chance M. Lucas, 28, of Topeka. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
