Fresh concerns raised on E.coli levels in the Seine despite £1billion forked out to clean it for Paris Olympics
FRESH concerns have been raised on E.coli levels in the Seine, just days before the Paris Olympics start.
More than a billion pounds has been spent on cleaning the water.
But a test carried out on a sample taken from the river by The Sun showed alarming results.
Water testing firm Simplex Health found “a reasonably high amount of coliform bacteria, which might be harmful to health if ingested”.
Triathlon and marathon competitions are due to be held in the Seine.
Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, last week went for a swim to show it was safe.
Benjamin Raigneau, Director of Paris’s Waste and Water Department, told The Sun: “We are fully confident.
“We made lots of investments so the Seine is much cleaner.
“When there is pollution the time for it to get back to be swimmable again is much quicker. So we are really confident that the quality will be there.
“The Olympics will be incredible.”
A Team GB spokesman said it was positive all was being done “to ensure the water quality is of the standard required” for athletes.
