Kamala Harris earns enough delegates to win Democratic nomination for president: report



Vice President Kamala Harris has earned enough delegates to win the nomination of the Democratic party, CNN reports.

According to CNN’s ongoing count, Harris has obtained the 1,976 delegates needed to win the party nomination. An unofficial tally from The Associated Press put Harris at 2,538 delegates as of Monday evening, with just 57 delegates undecided.

Harris’ delegate count comes a day after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race. In just over 24 hours, Harris’ campaign amassed a record-breaking $81 million in campaign donations.Vice President Kamala Harris highlighted President Joe Biden's record in her first public remarks since emerging as the likely Democratic nominee.

Harris broke presidential donation records with a massive flood of cash in the 24 hours since President Joe Biden announced he was ending his campaign and endorsing her. The Associated Press reported she had raised $81 million.

That is more than any presidential candidate has ever raised in that stretch of time, the AP wrote.
