‘Long live the American Dream’: Megadonor family throws weight behind Kamala Harris

Billionaires George and Alex Soros are throwing their support — and likely millions in campaign donations — behind Kamala Harris in her bid for the presidency.

In the 24 hours since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race amid increasing concerns over his health and age, Democrats have rallied around Harris as the most viable candidate next in the line for the party nomination.

Among her supporters is 93-year-old Democratic megadonor George Soros, who confirmed his backing of Harris to The Wall Street Journal on Sunday. Soros made his fortune managing hedge funds and is a prolific philanthropist, reportedly giving away more than $32 billion to charitable causes.

His son and company successor, Alex Soros, posted a photo of himself and the vice president to X declaring his support.

“It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump,” Alex Soros wrote in the X post. “She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!”

The Soros family typically donates tens of millions of dollars to Democratic candidates they support, The Guardian notes. It is unclear if Soros donations are among the record-breaking $81 million the Harris campaign amassed in just 24 hours.
