Henderson diners excited for reopening of Pat's Fishermen's Wharf restaurant

HENDERSON, La. (KLFY) --- When the May tornadoes ripped through Pat's Fishermen's Wharf in Henderson, customers were left uncertain about the future.

With it finally reopening ten weeks later, the community is excited to get back to the tradition, and the food.

Oswald Broussard is a long time regular at Pat's.

"It feels good for us because we love this," Broussard said. "You know, I've been coming here for about probably 75 years I've been coming."

On May 13, an EF2 tornado came through Henderson destroying all of Pat's property.

"It was heartbreaking," said Henderson resident Judy Dupuis. "We're strong people and we're coming back."

Pat's co-owner Jude Huval says he is glad the tradition can live on. Monday marked the grand reopening of the 75-year staple of the Henderson community.

"They (customers) are ready to come back," Huval said. "They're ready to get here and get that taste, that flavor, that 75 years recipes we've been having going on (that) my mom and dad put together."

Loyal customers began showing up to enjoy the good food and history it has brought, and now continues to bring, to the community. While they missed the food, the one thing everyone said they missed the most was the fun.

"We go to the Atchafalaya Club often," Kitty Rui, long-time regular said. "So yeah, we're glad to see it open."

Huval says there will be a big reopening celebration next weekend, with live music, food and more.
