Eminem’s ‘Death of Slim Shady’ stages a ‘Coup’ on Billboard 200, finally taking #1 spot away from Taylor Swift

Veteran rapper Eminem has achieved what has been impossible for other artists since April: he has taken the top spot away from Taylor Swift on the Billboard 200 albums chart. His “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)” debuted at number-one for the tracking week that ended July 18 with 281,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. This marks his 11th chart-topping album. Read more about this week’s chart here on Billboard.com.

Swift was actually pushed down a few spots as another album debuted at number-two: K-pop group Enhypen‘s “Romance: Untold” with 124,000 units, which marked their biggest week yet. Coming in at number-three was last week‘s second-place album, Zach Bryan‘s “The Great American Bar Scene,” with 88,000 units. Then you get Swift, whose “Tortured Poets Department” slipped down to number-four with 82,000 units, which for her is a bigger than usual drop of 50% from week to week. Rounding out the top five was Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” with 66,000 units.

In our weekly Billboard 200 predictions contest, most of our game players correctly predicted “The Death of Slim Shady” in the number-one spot. We couldn’t agree on how many album units he’d rack up, though: only seven people were right that it would land between 250,000 and 299,999. But no one saw Enhypen coming: none of us predicted “Romance: Untold” at number-two. Our consensus was right about “The Great American Bar Scene” at number-three. But then only one of us anticipated “Tortured Poets” dropping all the way down to fourth place after 12 weeks on top. Finally, 11 players picked “One Thing at a Time” for number-five. In a trickier than usual week for predictions, no one achieved better than three out of six questions answered correctly. How did you do? Find out here.
