Music to close off July’s busy agenda

Music to close off July’s busy agenda

This summer is not short of live music performances and just before July ends, new melodious proposals arrive to fill the evenings.

Trio Rondine will perform at the Technopolis 20 garden on July 24, painting musical landscapes of the Mediterranean. The trio was formed in 2021 by three friends, Pavlina Konstantopoulou on guitar and voice, Andreas Papapetrou on accordion, piano and voice, and Maria Zannetou on mandolin. Their music touches on traditional sounds of the Mediterranean, infused with contemporary songwriting and film music.

In a completely different mood and arriving on the island to entertain lovers of Greek hip hop is Novel 729. The Greek rapper will put on a live show at the Lympia Municipal Park Theatre on Saturday as his performance is part of the Lympia Summer 2024 concert series.

Also happening on Saturday is a lively performance by popular Greek pop star Sakis Rouvas. The singer will put on an exciting show by the sea as he steps onto the stage of Nava Seaside in Protaras to perform his greatest hits.

Musicians from the Greek music scene will continue offering performances on the island this month and up next are two young artists who recently found fame by blending rembetiko, folk and traditional sounds. The Giagkinides duo started out in 2019 when friends Spyros Zisis and Panayiotis Siklafides started playing rembetiko songs in Thessaloniki. They quickly became a social media sensation and began touring, sometimes as a duo and other times as a full band. So far, they have performed around Greece, Australia, Belgium, Holland and England and on July 30 they will play live in Cyprus. The Dali Amphitheatre in Nicosia will host the two musicians.

Nikos Portokaloglou will also perform live in Nicosia on July 30 in a charity concert raising donations for the Christos Stelios Ioannou Foundation. Held at the School for the Blind, the concert will welcome the well-known Greek musician accompanied by his band to present a summer concert for a good cause. Plenty more music happenings will fill the summer agenda as August rolls in. For now, enjoy sounds from the island and beyond.
