Local officials in Badakhshan province report that over 1,500 sheep have been killed after falling from a mountain in the Nasi district of the province.

Zabihullah Amiri, the head of the Information and Culture Department of the Badakhshan, announced in a statement that the incident occurred on Sunday night, July 21, in a mountainous area covering the villages of Ki, Kaj-Dara, and Shorian in the Nasi district.

The statement also mentioned that the loss of this flock has caused approximately 20 million Afghanis in damage to the local residents.

According to Amiri, the sheep panicked due to the threat of wolves and fell from a height of 400 meters in the darkness of the night.

Local officials have emphasized that they have visited the site for further investigation, and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by livestock farmers in the region, compounded by recent severe weather conditions. The authorities are expected to continue their efforts to mitigate such risks and provide support to affected communities.

As the region recovers from this loss, there will likely be calls for improved measures to protect livestock and address the impacts of environmental and animal welfare issues.
