Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, has announced that she has secured the necessary support from Democratic Party delegates for her candidacy in the upcoming elections.

On Monday, July 22, Harris stated in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter, “I am proud to have secured the support needed to run for our party (Democratic) nomination.”

Forbes reported shortly after the statement that 2,668 delegates had pledged their support for Harris, a number significantly higher than required to guarantee her nomination.

Although Harris’s candidacy has received widespread backing from Democratic delegates across most states, Forbes notes that these commitments are not binding until delegates cast their votes at the Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic National Convention will take place next month. If the delegates who currently support Harris continue to do so at the convention, she will officially become the Democratic nominee and face off against Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, in the general election.

Harris’s solidified support highlights her strong position within the Democratic Party as she prepares for the upcoming election. As the convention approaches, attention will turn to how effectively she can consolidate her support and present a united front against her opponents.
