Lifeguard strike called off

The Sek and Peo unions said on Tuesday that a lifeguards’ strike has been called off.

The 24-hour strike had been scheduled for Thursday, but the unions said it was cancelled following an agreement with the interior ministry to increase staffing.

In their announcement, the unions also said that they agreed with the ministry to create caretaker positions and a beach security monitoring unit from next year.

This unit will aim to implement a uniform policy on lifeguarding, equipment, staffing, solving problems relating to the safety of beachgoers and the employment of lifeguards.
