Oliver Skipp has struggled for minutes since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou and is believed to be keen on an exit this summer with Leicester interested, but Spurs will need to account for the homegrown quote before issuing his sale.

Skipp wants regular minutes

After six years as part of the Spurs first-team, Oliver Skipp is reportedly eyeing a move away from the club he has been at for his entire senior career.

Football.London reported that Skipp has grown tiresome of being regularly benched and is willing to leave Spurs if that’s what he has to do in order to experience regular game time next season.

There are reportedly chances for the 23-year-old to exit North London permanently this summer as according to Football Insider, newly promoted Leicester City are keen on signing the midfielder.

Tottenham will need to sort their homegrown quota first

According to a fresh report on Sunday (21/7/24), Spurs are willing to sell Skipp, who would account for 100% profit due to him being brought through the club’s academy. (Football Insider)

However, the Premier League states you must have eight ‘homegrown’ players in your squad, and selling Skipp would drag Tottenham down to seven.

Leicester appear keen buyers as Steve Cooper tries to patch up the hole that star man, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, has left since joining Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

Tottenham will need to find a homegrown classified player to make up for Skipp’s exit likely before they let the 23-year-old go, leaving Spurs short and in a poor negotiation position.

It would be a shame to see Skipp go as someone who has progressed through the club’s academy.

Although, the past season has suggested the midfielder isn’t quite suited to Ange Postecoglou’s system and although he may be a great player for another Premier League side, he perhaps isn’t quite at the level that Spurs are aspiring to go to.

Tottenham do need to fulfil their homegrown quote quickly though, signing Eberechi Eze would be a spectacular way to do so, but at this point, any position or player would be fine.

It’s hopefully a stopgap as Tottenham waits for the likes of Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley to progress, who will count as homegrown.
