Iconic 00s sitcom in talks to return 17 years after shock ending

EXCITING news for fans of the iconic noughties sitcom Green Wing as the creator announces she’s in talks to bring it back.

The medical series began airing on Channel 4 in 2004 and has been celebrated as one of the greatest British sitcoms of all time – until it came to a shocking end in 2007.

This comes after the original cast reunited for a spin-off podcast series[/caption]

Green Wing revolves around the lives of the staff at East Hampton Hospital, a fictional medical centre in which unusual and surreal incidents frequently occur.

The popular medical sitcom was a notable role in the early career of national darling Olivia Coleman, who is now best known for starring in Netflix shows like The Crown and Heartstopper, and movies such as The Favourite and Wicked Little Letters.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show’s premiere, Olivia and the rest of the cast reunited for a spin-off show.

Audible launched a six-part podcast series called Green Wing: Resuscitated which was narrated by Olivia, alongside her former co-stars, Oliver Chris, Pippa Haywood, Mark Heap, Michelle Gomez, Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan, Julian Rhind-Tutt, and Karl Theobald

Now there’s even more exciting news for fans of the medical sitcom as it may be returning to screens.

While speaking to Radio Times about her new cop crime drama Piglets – which stars Green Wing’s Mark Heap – creator Victoria Pile confirmed that she is in talks to bring the series back.

“We are debating [a revival],” Victoria revealed.

“I’m about to email everybody and see how they feel about it. So, yeah, we’re contemplating what we could do,” the writer teased.

This revival could bring fans of Green Wing some much needed closure as the series ended on a huge (and literal) cliffhanger with the characters on the run from the police in a camper van which ends up hanging over a sheer drop.

While the ending left the fates of the beloved characters up in the air, it was also a full-circle moment taking viewers back to the end of the first season which ended with the characters in peril on a cliff edge after swerving to avoid a sheep in the road.

Thankfully, the fate of the Green Wing staff was revealed in Green Wing: Resuscitated, which confirmed that they were alive and thriving 12 years after their last cliff incident.

Caroline (Tamsin) is now a medical pioneer in the States, while Guy (Stephen) has become a TV personality, and Mac (Julian) has returned from several near-death experiences to continue working as a surgeon.

Elsewhere in the hospital, Boyce (Oliver) has been promoted to head of radiology and Harriet (Olivia) is now head of human resources. Sue (Michelle) is still working as the staff liaison officer and Martin (Karl) has still not qualified as a doctor.

Following their murder spree, Joanna (Pippa) is now in prison, but Statham’s (Mark) lawyers got him a reduced sentence involving psychiatric care, and he is now back at the hospital working under Boyce.

Speaking about the revival podcast series, Tamsin said: “There are six episodes and the characters are still working in that hospital East Hampton Trust, and it’s in the same vein of the very visual humour that you get in the show, but it’s now, of course, an audio comedy.

“And it’s really lovely, because apparently our voices don’t age and that’s great

If Green Wing does get a revival on Channel 4, viewers can expect it to pick up where the podcast series left off.
