Pregnant Megan McKenna shares terrifying hospital dash after allergic reaction on The One Show
SINGER and TV star Megan McKenna has opened up about her terrifying allergic reaction that left her hospitalised earlier this year.
In a pre-recorded segment for The One Show, Megan, 31, explained how having a severe allergic reaction to her medication left her fighting for her life.
The TOWIE alum is expecting her first child with Scottish footballer fiancée Oliver Burke. They announced the happy news back in April.
However, Megan has revealed her pregnancy is complicated by her severe wheat allergy, as she’s worried about what this could mean for her child.
And she actually experienced a terrifying moment early on in her pregnancy when she was rushed to the hospital because of an allergic reaction.
Megan opened up about this experience during her segment on The One Show, which began with a flashback video from the day after the incident in April 2024. Megan is sitting in her car as she describes her symptoms, saying, “I’m still very swollen underneath my neck and underneath my tongue.”
The segment then cut to present day Megan as she further explained what happened.
She said: “In April, I was rushed to the hospital after having a serious allergic reaction to my medication. My neck and tongue swelled to the point where I had to call 999 and was taken to A&E.
“I also have a wheat allergy, so all my life I’ve had to be really conscious about what I eat.”
Megan then admitted she was worried what her wheat allergy might mean for her unborn child, before diving into the rest of the segment which saw her meet with parents of children who suffer from allergies.
Megan learnt that many parents have been able to help manage their allergies, which left her feeling much more positive.
She shared her relief, saying: “For me, hearing [the parents] speak about their children is so reassuring, especially as a mum to be. It’s made me feel less anxious, it’s making me feel, ‘Is there actually hope for people with allergies?’”
This is not the first time Megan has opened up about her severe allergic reaction. She opened up about the aftermath of the ordeal on her Instagram Story.
Megan had been to an emergency dentist for an abscess and was prescribed painkillers for it. This was the medication she reacted to.
She added that her pregnancy may have led to the reaction.
Megan said: “Just being pregnant has made my body so much more sensitive, I am allergic to everything.

“I’ve been in so much pain. I’ve been on codeine and paracetamol and when I say that the codeine just takes the edge off, I have still been in pain.
“Honestly, it’s the worst thing ever, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” she added.
