Report: Spurs want to sign player they see as Heung-min Son’s long-term replacement

Unfortunately, there will come a day when Heung-min Son is no longer a Tottenham Hotspur player. It may be a few years away yet, but Johan Lange has already identified the player he would want to replace the Spurs skipper.

How to replace the irreplaceable

He’s the club captain, one of the Spurs‘ all-time leading goalscorers, and a legend of the game. But, at the age of 32, Son cannot have too many years left at the top.

There is talk that Son is close to getting a one-year extension on his current contract, with a bigger, better deal also potentially in the works (The Athletic).

That is great news for Spurs fans, but with the future in mind, it seems Johan Lange has been plotting Tottenham’s next move and he has a particular Premier League winger in mind to take over the mantle from Son one day.

According to a report from Football Transfers, Spurs see Eberechi Eze as the perfect man to fill those boots, and Lange is “exploring heavily” the possibility of bringing the winger in from Crystal Palace this summer.

It is said Eze will cost any club at least £60m to prise away from Palace, as he has an “unofficial release clause” that the Eagles will honour.

Spurs have other options

Whether Spurs can get a deal over the line remains to be seen. Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that the situation regarding Eze is ‘complicated’ and suggested the Lilywhites may look to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves instead.

Eze feels like such a perfect player for Spurs, and I do hope we sign him this summer.

The idea of replacing Sonny feels weird to even think about, but Eze would certainly go a long way towards easing the eventual pain of seeing Son play his last game for us.
