Parts of Route 3 near Clifton shut down after fatal tractor-trailer fire

CLIFTON, N.J. (PIX11) – Parts of Route 3 in New Jersey were shut down during the Tuesday morning commute after a tractor-trailer fire the day before, according to the state's Department of Transportation.

Two lanes on the eastbound side of the road were closed between Route 46 and Grove Street. The ramp from Valley Road to Route 3 going eastbound was also shut down for emergency repairs, according to officials.

A bus rear-ended the tractor-trailer around 9 a.m. on Monday, causing it to catch fire, officials said. The driver of the truck was killed in the crash.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a result of the fiery crash, according to officials.
