Why is the Paris 2024 Olympic track purple?
THERE will be several changes at the Paris 2024 Olympics – and the colour of the track is one of them.
Athletics icon Carl Lewis unveiled the new look purple track, which was designed by Italian company Mondo.
It is made of rubber, covers an area of around 17,000 square metres and has been extended from eight to nine lanes.
And the track will host 46 out of the 48 athletic events at the 2024 Olympic Games as the marathons will be held entirely on the road.
But fans want to know why the track is now purple.
Why is the Paris 2024 Olympic track purple?
President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee Tony Estanguet revealed that the idea was to create a more “joyful and festive” tone to the track.
It will feature three colours, two shades of purple (one lighter, closer to lavender and the other darker) and grey on the outside of the track.
Mondo have seen three hundred world records broken since the Italian company produced the tracks since 1972.
And it is hoped that many more will be broken at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
What has been said?
Paris 2024’s athletics sports manager Alain Blondel couldn’t confirm whether the track would be fast, but he revealed that it is a very good track.
“It’s the same track, the same base as in Tokyo (where the last Summer Olympics were held) but with small changes.
“Early indications are that in many ways, it will be a very, very good track.
“We really liked the purple as it allowed us to get away from the usual colours.”
