Google plots new Amazon Fire Stick rival with a completely different look – and it’s not a Chromecast

LEAKED images purportedly show Google’s next Amazon Fire Stick rival – except this one isn’t a Chromecast.

The two tech giants have long led the dongle streaming device market but it appears Google is preparing to move away from the trusty Chromecast.

Google has been selling various versions of Chromecast for more than ten years now.

But photos obtained by 9to5Google appear to reveal a new set-top/table-top physical form with a flat, pill shape.

You can also see two cables connected to the device along the back, presumably for power and HDMI to hook up to the TV.

It’s reported that the gadget’s name will simply be the Google TV Streamer.

The remote looks to be unchanged from the current design but longer.

Google fans have also noticed that the distinctive Google Assistant logo is no longer featured for the microphone button, instead opting for a generic image.

It’s unclear whether the product naming means the end for Chromecast.

And Google is yet to speak publicly about the leak – but that’s not the only leak the firm has had to content with recently.

PIXEL LEAKS

The company decided to out its new Pixel 9 smartphones after several huge leaks.

Google Pixel 9 isn’t due to be officially revealed until August 13.

In an early promo, the Pixel 9 Pro is shown off with a heavy focus on the company’s latest AI gizmo, Gemini.

In a separate clip for the now-confirmed Google Pixel 9 Fold, we see that the camera will come in the form of a double-stacked lenses on the rear of the device.

That’s a change from the existing Pixel Fold, which is a more traditional long but thin design for the camera compartment.

“A foldable phone built for the Gemini era. Out with the old. In with the Fold,” Google said.

Fans also get a glimpse of the internal main display and the all-important hinge.

Aside from features, the price is also being kept under wraps until launch day in August.

But for comparison, the first Pixel Fold was released for a whooping £1,749 / $1799.
