George Conway: Trump’s now the only one 'the issue of cognitive decline' applies to

Having secured more than enough delegates following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the United States' 2024 presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is now the presumptive Democratic nominee.

During an interview with MeidasTouch, conservative attorney George Conway — a Never Trumper who fundraised for Biden — weighed in on the ways in which having Harris rather than Biden as the Democratic nominee changes the dynamics of the race.

Conway argued that GOP nominee Donald Trump's mental fitness will now be a focal point.

"I've always thought this election was relatively simple," Conway explained. "In 2016, Trump won because Hillary became the issue…. 2020, Trump was the incumbent, he was the issue — because of his behavior, because of Clorox, because of everything. And what happens again this year is whoever becomes the issue loses. And the problem we were having over the last three or four weeks was that Biden was becoming the issue when Trump has to be the issue."

The conservative attorney added, "And now, Donald Trump isn't going to be able to avoid being the issue."

Conway emphasized that Trump's campaign won't be able to keep him "under wraps" because his "narcissism" will inevitably assert itself.

Conway told MeidasTouch, "He had a good night at the debate. Now, he's the old man in the race. Now, after having raised the issue of cognitive decline, he's the only one left that argument applies to. And so, he's got a big problem."

Conway urged Democrats to "go right back on offense" now that Harris is the presumptive nominee.

"This is the way that Trump loses — Trump loses if he is the issue," Conway emphasized. "And the other thing: Trump helps on that, because Trump is a narcissist — and he can't help but make himself the issue. He wants to be the issue; he wants to be the center of attention. And that, in the end, is what I think would defeat him."
