'Weird': Trump's apparent lack of 'plan B' after Biden quit shocks analyst

Donald Trump, the presidential nominee of the political party that limited abortion access for millions of American women, has no Plan B.

That's the latest take from Salon political analyst Amanda Marcotte on Trump's lackluster and panicked response to news that President Joe Biden will not run against him in November.

"I am not saying Donald Trump can't win, but boy, the odds of it just fell precipitously," Marcotte wrote. "No one knows that more than Trump and other Republicans, who are having a total meltdown right now."

Marcotte relishes in "apocalyptic fits of rage" on Fox News, "incoherent accusations" levied at Democrats and the irony that Trump has become the thing he repeatedly railed against: the oldest candidate in the race.

"Trump kept posting cracks about Biden's age on Truth Social," writes Marcotte, "not noticing that he is now the tired old man, and his opponent is relatively young and energetic."

These responses are not crafted political strategy, Marcotte argues, but proof of a GOP in Disarray.

"Republicans have no Plan B," Marcotte writes, "Which is weird, because there's been weeks of news reports of Democrats pressuring Biden to drop out."

This might explain why Harris is suddenly being accused of a coverup plot to hide Biden's poor health — with Republicans such as Rep. Lauren Boebert going so far as to suggest he's dead — that Marcotte characterizes as desperate.

"It shows both how dependent they are on conspiracy theory and how desperate they are to trick voters into thinking this election is a referendum on Biden," writes Marcotte.

"A bank shot attack trying to make Biden's age a Harris problem is nonsensical, especially as she's the actual cure for the Biden age problem. I'm not saying Harris has this in the bag — it will be a close race — but things just got much brighter."
