Purristic said she’s since moved on to a purchased anti-chafe product from Germany.
But before she found the overseas must-have, she was all about making her own balm.
The ingredients include one to dry out excess moisture, another ingredient for anti-friction, and a third to decrease sweating.
She also gave detailed direction as to how to prepare it for on-the-go use.
HOW TO MAKE ANTI-CHAFE CREAM
All you need is starch, coconut oil, and a piece of an antiperspirant stick.
“With aluminum,” she said of the antiperspirant stick. “[It] makes you sweat less which causes the chafing.”
For her first step, she melts the coconut oil and antiperspirant together using the microwave.
She follows that up by mixing it with the starch until the texture becomes creamy.
The Redditor waits for the concoction to harden before the final step.
“I put it in a little container so I can carry it with me,” she said.
She also added a piece of advice for others looking to DIY their anti-chafing creams.
“I recommend having some wet wipes with you as well, for your hands,” she said.
The DIYer added that the mixture worked for two summers.
WHAT IS CHAFING?
Chafing is a potentially uncomfortable condition of skin rubbing together.
Sweat can worsen the pain that comes with the issue, causing inflammation.
Mount Sinai has a few recommendations to avoid the uncomfortable summertime woe.
First they suggest wearing clean clothes, preferably 100% cotton.
They also recommend wearing the appropriate garments for activities, such as biker shorts for biking.
Mount Sinai added that keeping the area free of debris is key to preventing complications like further irritation.
Finally, if you’re already struggling with the aftermath of chafing, they recommend using petroleum jelly or baby oil until the area heals.
