Tony Cascarino has tipped Ivan Toney to be a success at either Tottenham or West Ham with the two clubs reportedly the ones who hold the strongest interest in Brentford’s star striker.

Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford

Brentford have, perhaps surprisingly, cut their asking price for their main man this summer from around £80 million, all the way to as low as £50 million, according to The Sun.

The cut is a culmination of Toney’s public desire to move away from Brentford, as explained to TNT Sports, the fact his contract with The Bees is expiring next season and could therefore depart for free, as well as reports that Brentford are receiving a lack of interest in the striker.

The Sun’s report claimed Tottenham and West Ham are the two most likely suitors for the 28-year-old forward as Spurs look to improve upon their current striker, Richarlison, who struggled with injuries last campaign and is now of interest to Saudi League giants, Al-Ahli. (Daily Mail)

Tottenham or West Ham would work for Toney

Whilst discussing Ivan Toney’s future on TalkSport, ex-Aston Villa and West Ham striker, Tony Cascarino, expressed his belief that the England international could work at both Spurs and the Hammers.

He said: “I personally think Toney could fit both, as long as you play a runner off him.

“When you are buying a centre-forward that leads the line and he is useful with flick-ons, holding the ball up and bringing players into play. You are looking for movement beyond. Both of them clubs have that. They have the runners beyond.

“Bowen can do it for West Ham. Son can do that and others. Brennan Johnson, he can run beyond. They have that. I wouldn’t say one is a preference for me.

“I don’t think he will go for £50 million. I would go more likely £40 million. There might be add-ons to get to £50 million. What’s Ivan now? 28? There is a player there you can utilise and get a lot from. A useful player there for somebody.”

Spurs Web opinion

I share and understand Cascarino’s theory that Toney’s hold-up play would be very successful at Spurs, due to the pace Postecoglou’s side wields on their wing.

As well as that, Toney is a very clinical finisher in the box and with Tottenham’s wingers frequently driving low crosses into the box, Toney could grab plenty of goals in lilywhite.

However, with incidents such as Toney’s ban and his publicly made statement about leaving Brentford, it would leave me with questions as to whether or not Postecoglou would want to sign a player who perhaps can be selfish in regard to his own career with the Australian unlikely to stand for anyone claiming they want to leave Spurs.
