Map: Gold Complex wildfires, evacuations near Portola and Lake Davis

Mill and Smith fires were started by lightning in Plumas County's resort area.

A cluster of wildfires that started Monday has prompted evacuations in Plumas County’s resort area.

The Gold Complex — the Smith fire and three fires called Mill — was started by dry lightning strikes around 2:45 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday morning, the combined total was about 1,700 acres.

The evacuation order stretches from Lake Davis to Highway 70 and also covers the Gold Mountain and Iron Horse areas and the Nakoma golf resort. The city of Portola was under a warning.

The map above shows the approximate perimeter of the two largest fires as a black line and the evacuation area in red.

Structures were threatened by all four fires on Monday night, said Plumas National Forest’s wildfire team. Highway 89 was closed between Calpine and Valley Ranch.
