President Biden's Austin visit rescheduled to July 29

The event is now set for July 29, according to an advisory from the White House.

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- President Joe Biden will be in Austin next week after his trip to the capital city, originally set for July 15, was postponed in the wake of an attempted assassination against former President Donald Trump.

The president was originally scheduled to visit Austin on July 15 in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing of the Civil Rights Act. He was expected to deliver a keynote address at the LBJ Presidential Library in honor of the milestone.

The event is now set for Monday, July 29, according to an advisory from the White House. In a press release, the LBJ Presidential Library said Biden's speech will be in the afternoon. An exact time wasn't announced.

Ambassador Andrew Young, award-winning actor Bryan Cranston and others are also expected to participate in the program, the release said.

The original date for his Austin visit coincided with the start of the Republican National Convention and was set to precede two other stops, both in Las Vegas, in the following days, according to The Hill. The Vegas trip still went on as planned, where Biden attended and spoke at the 115th NAACP National Convention on July 16 and attended the July 17 UnidosUS annual conference, described as one of the largest gatherings of Latinos in the country. The president contracted COVID-19 at the gathering and postponed his scheduled appearances immediately following.

Shortly after that, Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential election race.

The Austin event was rescheduled following a shooting the Federal Bureau of Investigation is calling an assassination attempt against Trump at a rally for him in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The former president was rushed off the stage after his ear was grazed by a bullet. One man was killed and two other people were injured in the shooting, according to the Associated Press.
