GHETTS the British rapper has entered the world of acting with his villainous role in the Netflix series Supacell.
He has been praised for how well he played his first acting role in Supacell. Here’s what we know about him…
Who is Ghetts?
Ghetts is a British grime MC, rapper, songwriter and actor.
Born October 1984, his real name is Justin Jude Clarke-Samuels.
He grew up in Plaistow, London where he performed on private radio stations like Rinse FM and Deja Vu Fm with other emerging acts of the time like Kano.
Ghetts was a member of NASTY Crew but later left and went on to create a new grime collective, that included artists like Devlin, Wretch 32 and Scorcher.
In 2008, Ghetts won the BET Award for Best International Act.
And in 2021 he was nominated for three MOBO Awards and he took home the Winner award for Best Male Act.
Ghetts went on to win the MOBO Pioneer award in 2024 for his contribution to British black culture.
Reflecting on winning the award he told NME:
“It felt like a landmark. It felt like a checkpoint in my career. It felt like something inspiring to leap off, towards something else.
“I was gonna go up [to collect the award] by myself, but I just looked at my parents and went “Mum, do you wanna come up?”
“I knew that maybe if my mum didn’t come up with me, I would regret that later in life. That’s gonna be something amazing to look back on.”
What character does the rapper play in Supacell?
Ghetts plays the part of an icy villian called Krazy.
Krazy was like an older brother to Tazer, but he quickly became his arch nemesis in the scenes that followed Krazy’s release from prison.
Supacell is his first major TV acting credit.
Elsewhere in the world of TV, Ghetts worked on BBC’s Champion to create the original music used in the drama.
What is Supacell about?
Netflix’s Supacell is a sci-fi drama series follows the story of five ordinary people with newfound superpowers.
Just when the five characters think they got to grips with their superpowers, their worlds eventually collide.
Michael is determined to connect with the others as he takes on a quest to change his fiancee’s fate.
The synopsis reads: “A group of seemingly ordinary black people from South London, unified by a family history of sickle cell disease, unexpectedly develop superpowers.
“They discover each other, and fend off entrapment by a secret organisation seeking to control them.”
The series was created by rapper Andrew Onwubolu, aka Rapman.
