'Word salad': MAGA lawmaker mocked for 'convoluted' rant against Kamala Harris

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) tried out a new attack on Vice President Kamala Harris to Fox News correspondent Chad Pergram on Tuesday — and it appeared to land with a thud on social media.

Harris is now the presumptive nominee to replace President Joe Biden, who dropped out of his bid for a second term this weekend amid concerns over his age and fitness, and threw his support behind his vice president shortly after, with delegates and Democratic voters overwhelmingly signaling support for her. This has left allies of former President Donald Trump, like Donalds, caught off guard after they spent months preparing to attack Biden in the general election.

"Do I acknowledge, yes, she is female?" said Donalds, who was at one point in contention for Trump's running mate. "I'm glad the Democrats now know what a woman is. This is interesting to see. But she's female. Obviously, you know, she's, I think it's, Black and Indian descent. She is — But in 2024, we want to make sure that our leaders can actually do the job. And all of your other intersectional qualities aren't important when you're talking about, gas prices, food prices, border security, foreign policy, and all the real issues facing our country."

Commenters on social media struggled to even make sense of what he was saying.
