Salem woman gets nine years in prison for more than 150 counts of mail theft

Michelle Nadine Ray was also found guilty of aggravated theft, possession of methamphetamine and identity theft.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Salem woman was sentenced to nine years in prison for more than 150 counts of mail theft and several other charges, authorities said.

According to the Polk County District Attorney's Office, 47-year-old Michelle Nadine Ray was given 108 months in prison — a sentencing that took into account the high number of victims of the crimes as well as the fact that Ray was on pre-trial release for unrelated crimes in other Oregon Counties.

District Attorney Aaron Felton shared that mail theft can be a devastating crime and that he's grateful that the matter is now handled.

“Mail and identity theft can be devastating to the victim’s financial well-being and peace of mind," Felton said in a statement. "I am grateful for the thorough and aggressive investigation of the law enforcement agencies in this matter and that Ms. Ray took responsibility for her actions.”

Ray was also found guilty of aggravated theft, possession of methamphetamine and identity theft.
