Lawrence man convicted for 2023 Topeka shooting death

LAWRENCE (KSNT) - A Lawrence man was convicted in connection to a 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old Topeka man.

On Tuesday, Maliqe Crenshaw, 23, of Lawrence pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Cameron Renner, of Topeka.

The charges came from an incident that happened at 1 a.m. on June 3, 2023. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, police were called to an area near West 24th Street and Cedarwood Avenue for reports of gunshots. Deputies responded to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after Crenshaw drove the shooting victim to the hospital.

The victim, later identified as Renner, had been shot in the chest and the shoulder and died three days later.

Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2024, at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center. Crenshaw faces 31 to 136 months in prison and must register as a violent offender for 15 years.
