Schenectady County man pleads guilty to having child sex abuse images

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Timothy "Mitch" Duell, 47, of Schenectady County, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possessing images depicting the sexual abuse of a child.

SCHENECTADY COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Timothy "Mitch" Duell, 47, of Schenectady County, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possessing images depicting the sexual abuse of a child. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

Duell confessed to having sexually explicit images of a child under the age of 12. He further admitted to engaging in digital chats where he voiced his interest in having sex with the minor.

In addition to prison time, Duell must serve a term of post-release supervision of five years and up to life and will have to register as a sex offender upon his release. He will also have to pay restitution to the victim and forfeit the device used to access the images.

Duell's sentencing is scheduled for November 26. The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security alongside state police and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Gadarian.
