The Olympic Village Is for Content Creation
The world’s best athletes have been posting up a storm since arriving in Paris.
The Olympics’ Opening Ceremony is just days away, and while rumors of a Lady Gaga performance fly through the streets of Paris, the athletes have something else on their minds: content. #OlympicVillage has started popping off on TikTok, where athletes from all around the world are posting like mad. From the cardboard beds to their swag hauls, the second-most strenuous part of being an Olympian is keeping up with a rigorous posting schedule. Here are some of the best posts.
They’re getting a lot of good material out of the beds
In a move designed to be more ecofriendly, the cardboard “anti-sex” beds are back at the Olympic Village. British diver Tom Daley gave a tour of his sleeping arrangement, explaining that it’s basically a mattress on top of a cardboard box. “As you can see,” he said while jumping on the bed, “they’re pretty sturdy.” Wink, wink.
Tilly Kearns, an Australian water polo player, revealed that the actual cardboard isn’t really the issue with the beds, it’s the mattress. In a video, she and her roommate bemoaned their “rock-solid” mattresses, which appear to be made out of the same material as a Scrub Daddy.
The mattresses were such an issue that the team manager for the Australian water polo team got everyone a mattress topper.
The surfers and the sailing teams got a better shake
While most Olympians are praying they don’t throw out their backs in the Olympic Village, some of the athletes are getting a five-star vacation by comparison. Olympic sailing is taking place in the south of France in Marseille, and while the athletes won’t get the community feel of the Olympic Village, they are getting a nice view and a real bed.
The surfers are probably the luckiest of all. They’re currently on a floating Olympic Village, a.k.a. a cruise ship, just off the coast of Tahiti.

One of the perks of being an Olympic athlete is that you get a ton of free stuff. Whether or not it’s really “free,” considering how much blood, sweat, and cash it takes to be an elite athlete, is a question for another day. For now, they’re all having a blast showing off their swag.

Everyone’s a (food) critic
Did you know that there’s an on-site boulangerie at the Olympic Village?
Aleah Finn, a gymnast representing the Philippines, got to make a baguette with a real French chef.
Finn also reviewed the food from the dining hall, which she called “not really seasoned.” Oops!
As the Games get started later this week, we’ll get even more content coming out of the Olympic Village. Someone will cry because they lose. Someone will cry because they won! Hopefully, someone will realize that what we all really want is to hear the words “Get ready with me to swim in the Seine.”
