MAGA candidate posts campaign video from House Speaker's balcony — against ethics rules

Missouri Secretary of State candidate Valentina Gomez has spurred yet another new controversy — posting a campaign video from a place where campaigning is not allowed.

"I am on the speaker's balcony, and they don't like me here, and neither in Jefferson City," said Gomez, a hardcore Trump disciple. "But I don't give a f---. I speak the truth, catch pedophiles, and I will be Missouri's 41st Secretary of State."

It is not clear exactly what Gomez means by "catching pedophiles," as she is not a police officer or a prosecutor; she is a real estate investor with an MBA from Tulane University.

But there's a bigger issue with the video, noted Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman on X: "A campaign ad filmed on the speaker's balcony, where campaign politics are explicitly prohibited."

It is not clear exactly whether congressional ethics rules specifically apply to a candidate for Missouri state government, but they would certainly apply to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who has sole access to that balcony and would have to have approved her presence there.

Gomez has thrived on generating internet controversy.

In an earlier campaign ad, she filmed herself incinerating books with LGBTQ messages with a flamethrower, proclaiming, "This is what I will do to the grooming books when I am Secretary of State."

She has adopted "Don't be weak and gay" as one of her principal campaign slogans. And this year, she chose to celebrate Juneteenth — the anniversary of slaves in Texas being finally notified of their emancipation — by telling Black people to get out of America.

"It is outrageous to see people ask you for reparations, even though they never went through slavery. These ungrateful people should be celebrating because they were born in the greatest nation to ever exist," she said. "Here's a tip; If you don't like America, kindly, get the f--- out."
