J.D. Vance picked out of 'arrogance' — but script 'totally flipped': Ex-Fox contributor

Reports have swirled in the days after the Republican National Convention that former President and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump regrets choosing Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate.

Speaking to MSNBC, former CNBC and Fox contributor Julie Roginsky believes that Trump made his choice based on his assassination attempt, which he assumed would garner him more support.

Roginsky, who started the pro-women's workers group Lift Our Voices with Gretchen Carlson, pointed to some of Vance's comments over the years that are outside the mainstream.

"Talking about women choosing not to have children. They're crazy cat ladies who hate life and men," said Roginsky. "I'm paraphrasing, but by not too much."

"Way to offend!" she exclaimed. "I'm a mother and allergic to cats, and I'm offended, right? The craziness about banning IVF [in vitro fertilization]. Never mind the fact that Roe v. Wade is a threat to women's health is real. It's not just the imagination of somebody trying to scare anybody."

"That's who you're supporting," she continued. That's who you are putting up there as the number two, who very easily can be president because the guy he's serving underneath is an obese man who is almost 80 years old and clearly not in good health, despite whatever his paid doctors are saying."

Vance's attack specifically concerned the fact that leading Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has never given birth to her own children. Harris has spoken openly about her stepchildren, who were teens when she came in. She said that the kids refer to her as "Momala." As a child of divorce, Harris told Drew Barrymore that she wanted to be cautious about bringing the kids into the relationship if it didn't work out because they form attachments.

A Pew Survey using 2010 Census data on the American family revealed that 16 percent of children are living in "blended families," meaning a home with a stepparent, stepsibling, or half-sibling.

Ron Deal, who works in marriage and family ministry wrote on his site "Smart Stepfamilies" that the math works out to about 113.6 million Americans who have a step relationship. The current divorce rate is about 42 percent, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states.

Vance believes that since Harris never gave birth, she has no "personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring."

"So, you pick J.D. Vance if you are so arrogant, if you're so committed to the belief that you're going to win, that you just want to feed the base red meat," explained Roginsky. "But I think that was an arrogance that was born out of him being shot, Joe Biden not doing too well in the polls — the script has been totally flipped now. And to that point is that who you really think is going to appeal to people in the Rust Belt?"

She accused Vance of using those people to "get rich."

Vance also attacked Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for being "childless," though he and his husband adopted twins.
