There were seven trips to a casino hotel in Las Vegas.

One stay at a five star hotel cost £8,500.

It comes despite warnings thousands of soldiers are still stuck in squalid military housing.

From April to June the MoD spent £58,479 on taxis, £17,011 on bars, pubs and nightclubs and £4,373 on “fast food restaurants” — enough to buy more than 850 Big Macs.

The Taxpayers’ Alliance said: “Taxpayers will be furious.”

An MoD spokesperson said: “Ensuring Britain is secure at home and strong abroad requires both domestic and overseas travel.

“With over 200,000 people employed globally it is necessary to pay for accommodation, travel and food as personnel move between bases and fulfil UK defence engagement.

“Travel expenses must be signed-off and we always strive to ensure value for taxpayers’ money.”
