APD identifies victim in southeast Austin homicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department identified the victim from a homicide in southeast Austin last week, the agency said in a news release Tuesday.

Around 2 a.m., July 18, officers responded to an urgent call on Burton Drive with the caller saying someone "tried to kill his friend," according to police. Officers arrived at a home to find Jose Ramon Lizarraga Boca Negra, 39, with "an apparent gunshot wound." He was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to police, the man was shot inside the home, and the suspect ran from the area.

Anyone with any information can contact APD at 512-974-TIPS. Tipsters can also submit an anonymous tip via the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program website or by calling 512-472-8477. A reward up to $1,000 may be available for any information that could lead to an arrest, according to police.

This is being investigated as Austin's 34th homicide of 2024, according to police.
